Please Check Your School Email!

Hey students!  Tonight you should log into your All Saints' Gmail to make sure you can access because we are going to need it for class the rest of this week.  If you can't access your email you will need to see a librarian tomorrow morning to get your password reset and then WRITE IT DOWN in a safe place so that you don't forget it!

We missed the end of the school year!

It came and went and now it's June and we are all recuperating! Some of the kiddos are moving into high school and some of the kiddos are getting ready for another (albeit their last) year in Middle School, AND we'll get a whole new crop of 7th graders next year. Where does the time go? Oh well, better late than never! Here are some photos of a wonderful field trip to see a production by Kids Who Care.

Preparing for Lent - minus the doom and gloom!

Reaching out to students and the public during a season notorious for solemnity that can be tough for even the most pious is a tall task, but not too tall and order for Rev. Tim Schenck.  To read the full article, click below!

Holy Moly!

Time has flown in this new semester!  8th grade worked hard on their abstract creed projects, and soon I will have videos of all of them, but for the time being, here is first period's abstract interpretation of the Apostles' Creed!

Quiz Review for 7th Grade

Hey 7th Graders!  Some of you are having problems with RenWeb, so here is the review key!

Ch. 20

1.       Describe the parable of the wicked tenants.

The tenants are a metaphor for the people who do want to give glory to God.  The messengers they beat up and expel represent the prophets.  When they kill the property owner’s son, it represents Jesus’ crucifixion.

2.      How do the Pharisees try to trick Jesus with a question about taxes?  What is his response?

They ask him what they should do with their money since it is technically God’s, but Jesus responds to give the due taxes to the Emperor and give to God what is God’s.

Ch. 21

3.      What is significant about the widow’s offering at the beginning of this chapter?

She gives all that she has even though it is not very much.

4.      What does Jesus say will happen to Jerusalem in the future?

It will see destruction.

Ch. 22

5.       Which disciple betrays Jesus to the Chief Priests and the Scribes for a bag of silver?

Judas Iscariot

6.      What are the disciples and Jesus celebrating when they sit down for the last supper?

Passover

7.      Where does Jesus go to pray in this chapter and what does he pray for?

He goes to the Mount of Olives and prays for strength in temptation and for his burden to be lightened or taken away.

8.      How do the guards know who to arrest when they come upon the disciples and Jesus?

Judas kisses him on the cheek to tell the guards which one was Jesus.

9.      Who denies knowing Jesus at this point, fulfilling Jesus’ prediction?

Peter

Ch. 23

10.  When Jesus is arrested and taken in front of Pilate what does Pilate find him guilty of?

Nothing

11.  Who is it that calls for the crucifixion of Jesus?

The people

12.  What unlikely duo become friends as a result of Jesus’ trial?

Pontius Pilate and Herod

13.  When Pilate gives people the option to free a prisoner, how do they respond?

They choose to free Barabbas, a man in prison for rioting and murder instead of Jesus.

14.  As Jesus begins his journey to the site where he will be killed, who is recruited from the crowd to help him carry his cross?

Simon of Cyrene

15.  What are Jesus’ final words in the Gospel of Luke?

“Father, I give you my life.” Translations may vary according to the Bible being used.

16.  Who prepares Jesus for burial and what gift does he give to Jesus?

Joseph (not his father), and he gives Jesus his tomb, a luxury not everyone could afford.

Ch. 24

17.  Who first goes to Jesus’ tomb to see his body, and who do they find there instead of Jesus?

The female followers of Jesus are the first at the tomb and they find two angels standing in the empty tomb.

18.   Describe what happens on the road to Emmaus.

Jesus appears to two travelers in disguise and listens to them discuss the events in Jerusalem (his death).  When he goes to eat dinner with the travelers, he reveals himself to them and disappears.

19.   When Jesus’ appears to his disciples, what happens?

They were afraid at first but he ate with them and helped them understand the scriptures.

Abstract Creed Project

In 8th grade Religion we have been discussing what an attempt to create an abstract version of the Apostles' Creed would look like.  The link below will give you access to the outline we've created in class and allow you to edit it for clarification.  Make sure you do this before Tuesday, January 17th!

Religion Brochures

In my 8th grade class, we are starting the year by creating brochures to illustrate the different ways we understand our own religious practice.  This is a great way for students to become more familiar with their beliefs before they begin exploring other's spiritual practices.  I will post a few finished products as they become available!
